Hike to Squaw Mtn. Lookout

Calm and peaceful in the woods on the way up.  Cold, windy and deep snow at the top.  Clear with a beautiful distant view at the top.

Sarah's Graduation 2019 (Yes, a Year Late)

Sarah's Senior Picture

Diploma. She did not do a cap-and-gown ceremony.  But we had a small party in the backyard.

The school Principal handed out the diploma.

Photos, poems, stories-from Sarah's first 18 years.

Inktober 2020-Caution! Cats ahead

I'm taking part in Inktober this year ; creating an ink drawing each day of the month of October.  A list of prompts exists-one for each day- if people need inspiration.  I'm going to try to use the prompt each day.  I reserve the right to change my mind.  And reserve the right to maybe not even complete all 31 drawings!  But I thought it'd be fun to try.  For more info. on Inktober:     https://inktober.com/

For the color I used Derwent Inktense ink blocks.

Michael's Bday Cake

Sarah and Isaac and I spent time over two days making this cake for Michael.  They spent two hours frosting it to look like a topo map of the Eagle Cap Wilderness area in the Wallowas in Eastern Oregon.

The checkerboard vanilla and chocolate turned out well and tasted good too!

For my birthday this year David got me some Wedgwood pieces.  Two each of cups, saucers, small plates and large plates.  Also a creamer and sugar bowl.  So pretty!

Limoges

The other day we re-unearthed a chocolate set that was a wedding gift to my grandparents in 1935.  My grandmother used it to serve tea or hot chocolate to ladies from church and to fellow schoolteachers.  My mom had the set for years, packed away in newspaper and paper towels in a vodka box, and now I have it.  I washed and repacked the set in a sturdy plastic box.  Originally the set had 12 cups and 12 saucers and the pitcher w/lid.  Now I have 11 cups and 10 saucers.  On the bottom is says 'Limoges Haviland France'.  When you google that many patterns come up.

Saint Patrick's Day Cookies

Our Saint Patrick's Day Cookies.  Some frosted by Sarah , some by Isaac, enjoyed by all.

Saint Patrick's Breastplate- poem attributed to St. Patrick

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.
I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth with His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion with His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection with His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.
I arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In the obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In the predictions of prophets,
In the preaching of apostles,
In the faith of confessors,
In the innocence of holy virgins,
In the deeds of righteous men.
I arise today, through
The strength of heaven,
The light of the sun,
The radiance of the moon,
The splendor of fire,
The speed of lightning,
The swiftness of wind,
The depth of the sea,
The stability of the earth,
The firmness of rock.
I arise today, through
God's strength to pilot me,
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptation of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
afar and near.
I summon today
All these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel and merciless power
that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul;
Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me an abundance of reward.
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.
